Sad Farewell to Emmbrook Lodge – But a Lasting Gift for Local Children

We are saddened to share the news that Emmbrook Lodge No. 8786 has recently closed after nearly 48 years of service to the community.

Founded on 6 September 1977, the Lodge has been a familiar presence in Wokingham for decades, but like many membership organisations in recent years, it has faced ongoing challenges in attracting and retaining members. Unfortunately, these difficulties have now led to the Lodge’s closure.

While this marks the end of an era for Emmbrook Lodge, their commitment to charitable work has continued right up to the very last moment.

The Lodge has long been a valued supporter of Building for the Future and Our House, our dedicated playtherapy centre for disabled children.

In a final act of generosity, the members have donated £2,500 from the Emmbrook Lodge Benevolent Fund to help us continue our work.

Jane Holmes, CEO of Building for the Future, expressed her gratitude:

“We were so sorry to hear that Emmbrook Lodge was closing. As one of our regular supporters as well as our neighbours, we have enjoyed getting to know the Lodge over the years. We are so grateful for their very kind donation which will be put towards the continued running of our ever-growing service for disabled children and young people across Berkshire. We would like to wish the members every success for the future.”

Although Emmbrook Lodge will be greatly missed, their final gift will have a lasting impact – helping us to provide essential support and joyful experiences for the children and families who rely on Our House.

Colin Fowle, Secretary of Emmbrook Lodge, who shared the news with us, explained that while the Lodge is closing, many other Masonic Lodges in Berkshire remain active and continue their tradition of community support, and are actively seeking new members.  You can find our more at Berkshire Freemasons – Provincial Grand Lodge of Berkshire"
