The Wokingham Borough Schools’ Carol Concert brought festive cheer and community spirit to the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre Hall, as hundreds of local primary school children came together to perform a joyful programme of carols to a large and appreciative audience.
The annual event welcomed families, teachers and members of the community, alongside local dignitaries including Clive Jones, MP for Wokingham, and the Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Cllr Carol Jewell. We were especially honoured to attend as the Mayor’s chosen charity for her mayoral year.
Thanks to the generosity of the kind families in the audience, more than £400 was raised through donations on the evening, directly supporting our work with disabled children and young adults and their families, across the Thames Valley.
In her speech, Mayor Carol Jewell spoke movingly about the importance of inclusion, compassion and community, describing Our House as “a lifeline” for many families. She also highlighted our exciting next chapter — the move to a larger, fully inclusive facility at Thames Valley Park — which will allow us to extend our free services to even more families in the Borough.
The Mayor encouraged guests to support our Christmas appeal through donations, purchasing a brick for the legacy wall, or simply spreading the word, reminding everyone that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
We would like to thank the Mayor, organisers, schools, performers and everyone who attended for making the evening such a success. It was a wonderful celebration of music, community and the true spirit of Christmas.
