Charity attends Berkshire Judicial Service

We were thrilled that two representatives from Building for the Future, our charity supporting disabled children, were invited to this year’s Berkshire Judicial Service.

Hosted by The High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire, Sean Taylor DL, the service marks the ceremonial opening of the Crown Court for the new judicial year and celebrates the vital role of the judiciary in the county. This year’s themes highlighted education across academic, workplace, and community settings.

The special service at Reading Minster Church of St Mary the Virgin brought together judges, civic dignitaries, police, and charity representatives, including the Lord-Lieutenant and the Mayor of Reading, Dr Alice Mpofu-Coles. The procession from Reading Borough Council’s Civic Centre to the Minster was accompanied by the Mini Police, adding a charming touch to the formal occasion.

The service was led by Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Mary Gregory, and there were readings by The High Sheriff and Clive Williams OBE and hymns by The Chamber choir of St George's School Windsor Castle. A retiring collection was divided between charities Learning to Work and Berkshire Community Foundation.

In his welcome, The High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire, Sean Taylor DL, said:

"Today's service brings together those who work in administering the law, order and justice, as well as emergency services organisations, civic leaders, charities and voluntary groups in the Royal County of Berkshire and gives thanks for their valuable contributions to our community.

"Each High Sheriff is encouraged to have a theme during their Shrieval year and mine is education, encompassing academic, work and community aspects. I strongly believe that better education leads to better societies and this is a key theme in today's service."

Meeting The High Sheriff afterwards at a reception at Reading Town Hall and being part of this prestigious event was a real honour for Building for the Future, reflecting our ongoing commitment to supporting disabled children and their families across Berkshire.
