Gordon Storey football fundraiser

We popped along to a community event in Twyford on Saturday to cheer on teams raising funds for our charity.

The Gordon Storey Memorial Five-a-Side Tournament was organised by volunteers Lisa Fouweather, Kurt Charge and Rob Yeadon, to honour Gordon Storey, a Twyford man who did a lot for Building for the Future and for many other local good causes.

Gordon loved Twyford and football and worked tirelessly to improve the community so the tournament was a fitting way to remember him.

BFTF was one of six charities that Gordon promoted when chairing Twyford Together, the local business and community network and as part of his legacy these charities still receive support.

On the day there were football games, a fundraising raffle, a café and a good turnout of footballers and supporters.

Lisa Fouweather said: “It’s so great to have a community event that honours all the work Gordon did for our village. I’m so proud to be a part of anything that is done in his memory. A huge thank you to all the teams that took part, to all the volunteers who helped us, and to all the supporters who turned up to make it such a great event. I’m really looking forward to doing it all again next year.”

Building for the Future’s CEO Jane Holmes said that Gordon meant a great deal to her as a person and to the charity.

“It is so wonderful to have this event each year to remember Gordon who not only worked tirelessly to support local charities in Twyford, but who was also a great friend and mentor to so many of us.

“He was one in a million and will always be greatly missed but he would have approved heartily of this football tournament in his memory.”
