Inaugural Charity Golf Day is a resounding success!

On Friday 29th August, we held our very first Charity Golf Day at the beautiful Caversham Golf Club.

The event brought together 16 teams from across Wokingham, Reading, Berkshire and beyond for an afternoon of golf, fun, and fundraising — raising an incredible £3,500 to support disabled children and their families.

The day began with hot drinks and bacon rolls before players headed off for a shotgun start at 2pm. Teams enjoyed 18 holes of golf on the challenging course, with plenty of fun along the way thanks to competitions including Best Team, Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin, and the ever-popular Beat the Pro.

Community Spirit on the Course

The winning team of the day was BDO LLP, but everyone left with a smile and plenty of stories of individual achievement. Joining the competition were long-standing BftF supporters from Willmott Dixon, Wokingham Positive Difference, and Trademark Windows, whose team included — Clive Jones MP.

Clive not only played alongside the Trademark Windows team, but also sponsored ‘The 19th Hole’ and donated a coveted bottle of House of Commons Champagne for the Beat the Pro prize.

Raffle and auction prizes added to the excitement, with generous donations of golf experiences from Sonning Golf Club, Calcot Park Golf Club, The Caversham, Easthampstead Park Golf Club, Castle Royle, plus a RAMS season ticket for rugby fans.

Jason McMahon, BftF Fundraising Manager, said what an important day it was for the charity and thanked everyone for their participation.

“Our charity's services and support and our special 'Our House' playtherapy centre exists so that disabled children and young people and their families can have a more positive future.

"With our plans to move into a bigger 3,000 sq ft facility at Thames Valley Park, fundraising is more important than ever. Today is a celebration of the support we’ve received, and I’d ask everyone to take away what you’ve learnt about our charity and consider how you can help us spread the word and support us further.”

Jason also emphasised that BftF does not receive statutory funding and never charges families to use its facilities, adding:

“Everything we do is only possible thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses and community events like today. The money raised will go directly towards creating a brighter future for the children and families we support.”

Special thanks went to Sports Photographer Paul Clark, who gave his time free of charge to capture the day, and Greenhouse Graphics, who printed all player guides, award boards and hole sponsorship signage at no cost.

Looking Ahead

As the event wrapped up, following a hearty meal and drinks back at the clubhouse, Jason asked golfers if they’d like to return next year. The response was unanimous — 100% said yes.

With its first Charity Golf Day a resounding success, Building for the Future looks forward to making this an annual fixture — one that not only raises vital funds but also builds lasting connections across the community.
