We’re the Mayor’s Chosen Charity for 2025/26

Building for the Future Wokingham is absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been selected as the official charity of the new Wokingham Borough Mayor, Councillor Carol Jewell, for her 2025/26 term.

Following her official election and swearing-in at last night’s Wokingham Borough Full Council Meeting, Mayor Jewell announced her support for us — a heartfelt endorsement that marks the beginning of a whole year of exciting fundraising and awareness-raising opportunities.

In her speech, Cllr. Jewell said:

“Building for the Future is a fantastic Wokingham-based, parent-led, grassroots-funded charity set up in 2007. It has provided a fabulous custom-designed play space called ‘Our House’ which has been meeting the needs of local children and young people with disabilities since 2014, offering activities, support, and therapy.”

She continued:

“The charity works in partnership with other disability/community groups to provide a joined-up local service and is very proud to have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

“They recognise the critical need for a safe space where families can come together, share experiences, and find solace and support. Their BFTF Plus programme, launched in 2021, supports young local disabled adults in pursuing work, education, and social opportunities.

“ I think you’ll agree with me that they are a perfect choice for a Mayor’s charity, and I shall do my best to support them during my year.”
