Spooktacular Fun at Our House Halloween Party Brings Families Together

Our House was filled with smiles, sparkles, and just the right amount of spooky excitement as families gathered for our annual Halloween Party – a much-loved event designed especially for disabled children and their families.

Hosted free of charge and made possible thanks to the generous support of Wellington College and St Nicholas Church Emmbrook, the party once again proved how magical inclusive, safe spaces can be.

Organised by Our House Centre Manager, Nicki Mitchell, and run by an incredible team of volunteers, the afternoon offered families the chance to celebrate together without worry or judgement. Children and parents arrived in fantastic costumes, transformed further by dazzling face paints that became a firm favourite with many. One parent shared how her daughter “felt included and part of what everyone else does,” adding that the event was the only time the whole family had managed to get out together knowing everyone would be safe.

Another unforgettable highlight was a visit from the Berkshire Reptile Encounters, who brought along an array of exotic creatures. From snakes to wonderfully creepy crawlies, children were delighted to get up close to animals they’d never seen before. “The reptiles and face painter were such a fantastic addition,” wrote Angela, whose son dressed up for the very first time.

Parents repeatedly praised the welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful organisation, and the sensory-friendly food lovingly prepared by volunteers from St Nicholas Church.

Jenny commented on the “lovely, patient face-painting lady” and the “terrific pumpkin volunteer” who gently diffused a toy tug-of-war between two little ones—just one example of the care that makes these events so special.

As Abigail summed up: “We had a great time as always… You do a great job!”

A huge thank you to every volunteer, supporter, and family who helped make this year’s Halloween Party our most heart-warming yet. We can’t wait for the next celebration!
